First Weaving FO (or a new hobby begins)

In April, I got a rigid heddle loom. I pulled some Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock out of the stash and decided to weave it up, using one 50g hank for the warp and the other for the weft. It wove up quickly and I loved the process — even the warping!

It was fascinating to see how my selvedges got tidier as I wove on:

In a week and a half, I slowly wove a 5.5 foot scarf in fingering weight yarn. 76 ends, 10 dent heddle (so 7.6″ wide before pull-in; about 7″ wide finished). Not too shabby. I like how it turned out, except for my fringe treatment (need practice there).

Weaving is interesting to me because the colors work together in completely different ways than in knitting or crochet. Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock Multi pools like crazy — but looks pretty awesome woven up, I think.

I love it! I just took my first weaving class this week, too. I agree that it’s a wonderful thing to think you know a yarn so well… and then discover it’s a totally new thing when woven instead of knit. Yours is lovely! Great use of this beautiful yarn.
